Toxic-Free Cleaning and Sanitizing with SAO
Introduction
As a leader in cleaning innovations, the ISS team at Australian National University (ANU) continuously looks for ways to improve current cleaning regimes. ISS introduced the tersano Stabilized Aqueous Ozone (SAO®) system as an all-in-one cleaner, sanitizer, and deodorizer. ANU chose the high profile building at John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) as the test location. The SAO solution is a simple, safe, and effective alternative to toxic chemicals. Testing would take place over a period of one month.
The tersano SAO system:
- Is patent protected technology that infuses cold tap water and ozone to create a safe and effective cleaner and sanitizer.
- Eliminates the need to purchase, transport, distribute and stock multiple cleaning products.
- Dramatically reduces traditional chemical usage.
- Increases productivity through an all-in-one solution thereby lowering labor costs.
- Is non-corrosive and safe for any surface.
- Meets government regulatory approvals and safety standards.
Opportunity
Many commercial cleaners are powerful but toxic, or earth friendly but less effective than chemical cleaners. SAO kills 99.999% of germs, yet has an SDS of 0-0-0. The ISS team recommended tersano SAO as a powerful yet safe solution for cleaning and sanitizing. The tersano SAO system would assist ANU in achieving its sustainability and innovation targets.
Action
On August 8, 2019 all chemicals from JCSMR were replaced with the Tersano SAO system. Success indicators included cleaning performance, chemical removal, waste reduction, and safety. At the end of the month, no cleaning performance complaints were received—including specific to high-use, public areas like toilets, kitchens, and high-traffic floor surfaces. tersano SAO was used for all applications. The only additional chemical required was for cleaning the inside of toilet bowls.
- SAO reverts back to water and oxygen after use ensuring ANU is not disposing toxic chemicals into the waste stream.
- Excess water can be used as grey water for gardens and grounds etc.
- ZERO impact on the environment.
- Less packaging and emissions translating to less waste produced by ANU.
- All supplies delivered with a pre-paid return label to ensure participation in tersano's Recycling Program.
- Dramatically reduced carbon footprint at ANU.
